Approach: coordinates and area subtraction
- Take A(0,0), B(1,0), C(1,1), D(0,1), so R(1/2,1), P(0,1/2), Q(1,1/2); lines A→Q and B→P cross at (1/2, 1/4).
- Triangle R-A-B has area 1/2; the small triangle A-B-crossing has area 1/2 × 1 × 1/4 = 1/8.
- Shaded = 1/2 − 1/8 = 3/8 of the square.
